This day in history July 13th 1660
Thanks to the movie - All of you know of how 300 Spartans lead by Leonidas held a small pass in the battle of Thermopylae against a million Persians.
But how many of you know that on 13th July 1660 we had our own battle of Thermopylae??? 300 Marathas lead by legendary Baji Prabhu Deshpande. A huge Muslim army lead by Siddi Jauhar pursuing Shivaji after his escape from Panhala. Baji Prabhu tells Shivaji to continue to Vishalgarh while he holds the Muslim army at Bay.
300 Marathas & Baji Prabhu fight to the death with incredible valor till they hear a canon from Vishalgarh indicating that Shivaji is safe. Baji Prabhu used two swords and no shield.
Shivaji would live to fight another day and Hindustan would get another chance - all thanks to this legend - Baji Prabhu Deshpande
